Artificial intelligence: Hype or Myth

What used to be viewed with great skepticism in medical treatment is now seen as a savior par excellence: artificial intelligence has changed its reputation. Nevertheless, proper clinical studies are now needed to validate the individual applications. It is time for scientifically substantiated facts instead of mere assertions!

News on the much-discussed topic of AI in medicine, in the latest Swiss Health Web column by Prof. Dr. Jörg Goldhahn.

Artificial intelligence is similar to any other new technology: after initial hype followed by unfulfilled expectations, useful applications are gradually crystallizing.
In medicine in particular, however, careful scrutiny is required to avoid dramatic consequences.
Artificial intelligence must be tested strictly according to rules, whereby clear comparisons with established products and clean clinical studies are essential. Scientifically sound facts should pave the way for the integration of AI in medical treatment.
